Obstetrics & Gynaecology, the surgical management of the entire scope of clinical pathology involving female reproductive organs

Nikon’s ergonomic Eclipse Ci clinical upright microscopes and POL polarising microscopes offer an important diagnostic tool that enables the rapid detection and treatment of infections and the diagnosis and staging of cancers. Telepathology/cytology technologies also greatly assist in real-time assessment by pathologists in remote locations, in training, and archiving specimens.  Nikon’s Digital Sight series cameras and DS-L3 imaging system enable clinics to implement telepathology with ease. In reproductive medicine and infertility studies, Nikon’s Eclipse Ci and Ni upright microscopes, Eclipse Ti and TS100 inverted microscope series, AZ100 Multizoom upright zoom microscope and SMZ stereomicroscopes offer the advantage of high N.A. objectives with long working distances and heated stages. The BioStation CT and IM-Q time-lapse imaging systems provide environmentally controlled incubation with integral automated microscope imaging according to user-programmed schedules, enabling observations in oocyte and early embryo development. Better understanding of the scientific basis of gynaecological pathophysiology and disease has been advanced by high resolution imaging using instruments such as Nikon’s Eclipse Ti inverted microscope, Eclipse Ni upright microscope, the AZ100 Multizoom and the powerful A1+/A1R+ confocal laser microscopes and A1 MP+ multiphoton confocal microscope system, together with specialised objectives, that enable the visualisation of specific cellular and molecular structures. In addition, these microscope systems are ideal for live-cell imaging to provide critical insight into the fundamental nature of cellular and tissue function. The N-SIM and N-STORM super resolution microscope systems enable visualisation at nanoscopic levels – beyond the diffraction limit of conventional optical microscopes.

Imaging Challenges

How can I keep my cells alive for long periods of time in live cell imaging?

Light exposure (phototoxicity), temperature and time can affect the longevity of cells. Nikon’s BioStation CT and IM-Q time-lapse imaging incubator systems provide environmentally controlled incubation with an integrated and automated microscope for monitoring cells as they divide and differentiate in optimal culture conditions.
