enhances contrast by converting optical gradients into variations in light intensity

In the same way as Hoffman Modulation Contrast, NAMC is used to enhance contrast in both stained and unstained specimens. The NAMC system uses newly lined Plan Fluor objectives (S Plan Fluor ELWD NAMC 20x and 40X) with a full 360º-degree rotating modulator and a convenient ‘stop’ mechanism.

NAMC can be used in all applications using Hoffman modulation contrast but is particularly important in live cell applications, such as IVF, for the observation of specimens in plastic dishes.

Comparison of NAMC with Hoffman Modulation Contrast. Highlighted areas show evidence of improved image sharpness and definition in the NAMC system.

NAMC is currently available for Nikon’s Ti series inverted microscopes
