The Nikon Centre of Excellence at King’s College London is a light microscopy core facility situated within the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute. The aim of the Centre is to support researchers with advancing their understanding of the molecular, cellular and functional basis of neurological and psychiatric disorders and the discovery, implementation and evaluation of novel diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions.

The Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute is one of Europe’s largest centres for interdisciplinary neuroscience excellence. Located at the heart of King’s College London’s Denmark Hill Campus, it's home to a unique core of neuroscience research.

The Institute fosters collaboration between researchers across multiple disciplines, academic institutions and healthcare organisations to dramatically accelerate the translation of basic research into clinical practice.

The Institute is a key research facility in our efforts to fast-track new treatments to patients affected by disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, depression, schizophrenia, epilepsy and stroke, while strengthening King’s’ portfolio of internationally recognised brain research.

Nikon A1R Confocal with Ti-E Inverted Microscope

Nikon’s A1 confocal laser microscope systems offer new innovations that take confocal imaging to new levels of quality and system versatility. The Nikon A1R possesses both resonant and galvo mirrors. At 512x512 the system can deliver 30fps. Resonant scanning facilitates ultra-high-speed imaging with unsurpassed image quality due to the Nikon patented “Optical Pixel Clock Generator” which ensures that images can be acquired across the whole field of view without distortion, eliminating the need to crop the edges of the image. 

Nikon A1R Multiphoton Confocal with Ni-E Upright Microscope

Nikon’s A1R MP+ multiphoton confocal microscope is a unique multiphoton imaging system featuring a fast, high resolution galvanometer scanner and an ultra-high speed resonant scanner that is capable of frame rates from 30 fps at 512 x 512 pixels to as fast as 420 fps in band scan mode. This is especially important in multiphoton microscopy because of the overlap of emission spectra of probes and autofluorescence, which is often unavoidable when using a single laser line.

Yokogawa Spinning Disk Confocal with Ti-E Microscope

The Yokogawa CSU-X1 Spinning Disk Confocal system is an ultra-fast and sensitive confocal microscope system ideal for live imaging. 

VisiTech iSIM Super Resolution System with Ti-E Microscope

The iSIM is a cutting edge microscope specifically configured for high-speed super resolution imaging. The system produces super resolution images in real time at up to 800 frames per second with no requirement to use specific dyes or preparation techniques.

Due its speed the microscope is an excellent choice for imaging live samples, and the pinhole-based system allows deeper imaging than conventional super resolution systems, accommodating more diverse samples than just cell monolayers. The system is highly suited for a number of applications including trafficking, dendritic spine imaging and cell motility studies.

Nikon TS2-FL Inverted Routine Microscope

Utilizing Nikon's industry-leading CFI60 optical system and LED illumination for both diascopic and epi-fluorescence imaging, the Eclipse TS2 microscope offers brilliantly clear images, enabling more efficient cell culture observation and documentation. Furthermore, a newly developed contrast observation method and streamlined operation enhance its use for routine laboratory work.

Nikon SMZ1270 Zoom Stereo Microscope

The SMZ1270i is an advanced stereomicroscope featuring an expanded zoom range, remarkable image sharpness, and intelligent image acquisition features.

To meet and exceed the needs to observe minute structures while covering a wide field of view in the biological fields where biological body screening, injection and observation are conducted every day, the SMZ1270i was developed to feature expanded zoom ratio, high operability, intelligent image acquisition features and excellent optical performance.
