Florida Atlantic University (FAU)

The FAU Nikon Center of Excellence, a partnership with the FAU Brain institute, seeks to provide scientists and trainees across the university’s six campuses with access to high-performance, cellular imaging tools to advance the study of fundamental biological mechanisms and their contributions to human disorders. Through our Nikon partnership, the FAU community and its community partners gain access to Nikon’s technical expertise and advanced training support on existing imaging platforms as well as opportunities to explore leading-edge Nikon imaging technologies at the earliest possible stages of development. Installations on the Jupiter, FL campus include multiple confocal platforms with enhanced resolution capability, automated X-Y-Z image capture, and TIRF technology, affording high resolution analysis of single molecules in cellular sub-compartments and large field image capture and reconstruction.

A1R Confocal Microscope with Laser TIRF Imaging System on a Ti-E Inverted Microscope

The A1R confocal microscope is a high-quality imaging system with a high-resolution Galvano scanner and high-sensitive GaAsP detectors, reaching a resolution of up to 4096 x 4096 pixels. By combining the resonant scanner (up to 420 frames per second) and the motorized Piezo Z stage, high-speed 3D scanning can be achieved for live imaging. Using the spectral imaging detector, up to 32 channels can be acquired simultaneously. The A1R is additionally equipped with Nikon’s laser TIRF system, allowing for single molecule visualization and dynamic particle tracking.

C1si/C2 Confocal Microscope on an Eclipse 90i Upright Microscope

The Nikon C1si confocal microscope is an easy to operate imaging system, used for a wide range of imaging applications. In addition to the three standard detectors, the system is equipped with a spectral detector enabling acquisition of up to 32 channels simultaneously.

A1 Confocal Microscope on a Motorized Eclipse Ni-E Upright Microscope

The Nikon A1 confocal microscope contains 4 laser lines (405/488/561 and 640) with high-sensitive GaAsP detectors, reaching a resolution of up to 4096 x 4096 pixels. In addition, the confocal is specifically designed for high-throughput immunohistochemistry imaging, reconstruction, and contains a fully motorized X,Y,Z stage.

Custom FN1 Eclipse Upright System with High Sensitivity Dual Camera System with Beam Splitters for Simultaneous Two Wavelength Imaging

The Eclipse FN1 widefield microscope is outfitted to image two separate fluorescent wavelengths at very high frequency with high sensitivity. This system was a custom design which included a Lumencor light engine (6 wavelengths), a TuCam beam splitter and two Andor iXon EMCCD cameras.
