Depth of Field | Depth of Field
Key Words: N.A., resolution, focus, depth of focus, extended depth of field
Definition:The microscope depth of field is the thickness of the specimen that is acceptably sharp at a given focus level
TECHNOLOGY:
As in photography, depth of field is determined by the distance from the nearest object plane in focus to that of the farthest plane also simultaneously in focus.
In microscopy depth of field is very short and usually measured in units of microns. Depth of field is determined only by the numerical aperture of the objective (with depth of field reducing with increasing N.A.).
