Nikon Announces Two New Illumination Systems with Superior Performance for TIRF And High S/N Fluorescence
October 25, 2004
MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct. 25, 2004 -- Nikon Instruments Inc., a leader in advanced optical microscopy, today announced the addition of two new
state-of-the-art illumination systems to its family of high quality imaging products.
The Nikon White Light Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) illuminator is a cost effective alternative to traditional laser based systems and brings TIRF capability to labs for a fraction of the cost of a laser based system. The Nikon White light system is ulti-spectral. This product innovation allows all light wavelengths to be available with standard microscopy fluorescent filters for the selection of the optimal excitation wavelengths for their specific applications. Because the system can utilize HBO, XBO, and Exfo lamp systems, rather than lasers, interference fringing associated with coherent illumination is not an issue. Additionally, due to the unique proprietary design of the illumination path, the new systems provide bright illumination with perfect chromatic correction. This system can quickly and easily switch between TIRF, variable angle oblique, and standard epi-fluorescence illumination, thus making this a unique and highly versatile
tool for research imaging.
Also new from Nikon is the Laser TIRF System II, which combines epi-fluorescence and TIRF on the same optical level. This new design leaves
the upper level of the TE2000 illumination path free for additional applications, and makes it possible to switch between both modalities in
milliseconds. This new system product from Nikon retains the ease of set up and adjustment of the previous system, but provides a significantly larger and more even Field of View. This is an excellent system for the researcher who requires the intensity of illumination to study the dynamic interactions of single molecules in the plasma membrane of live cells or in vitro.
