Linear encoder | Linear encoder
Key Words: profile projector, DRO, caliper, coordinate measuring machines, non-contact measurement, measuring microscope
Definition:A linear encoder is a device that translates a position (and, hence movement) into an X, Y and /or Z readout
TECHNOLOGY:
A linear encoder is a sensor, transducer or reading-head linked to a scale that encodes position. The sensor reads the scale and converts position into an analog or digital signal that is transformed into a digital readout (DRO). Movement is determined from changes in position with time.
APPLICATIONS:
Linear encoders are used in high precision machine tools and some metrology instruments such as digital calipers, certain profile projectors, coordinate measuring machines, and measuring microscopes.
