Eight-segment LED ring illumination | Eight-segment LED ring illumination
Key Words: coordinate measuring, edge detection, episcopic; oblique illumination, LED
Definition:An 8-segment light-emitting-diode (LED) illuminator is a circular illumination device used in inspection / metrology applications that allows light to be directed at a sample from eight different directions
TECHNOLOGY:
The eight-segment LED is a circular illuminator that is positioned above the sample. With the ability to direct white LED light at a shallow angle of incidence onto the sample from eight different directions, it is possible to reveal low-contrast edges that are usually invisible using episcopic illumination.
APPLICATIONS:
The ability to reveal low contrast edges increases measurement capability and sensitivity and is effective for measuring molds, electrical components medical devices and other 3-D work pieces.
MICROSCOPE CONFIGURATION:
The Nexiv video measuring systems, and MM400/800 measuring microscopes can accommodate an 8-segment LED ring illuminator with an average incidence angle of 18 degrees. The high intensity white LED provides constant color temperature and reduced flicker for stable measurement accuracy especially with color images. A rapid response to lighting control, in addition, increases measurement throughput.
RECOMMENDED SYSTEM:
Please consult your Nikon representative for advice on the advantages of 8-segment LED illumination for your measurement applications.
