Coordinate measuring | Coordinate measuring
Key Words: laser, Touch trigger probe, multi sensor measuring
Definition:A coordinate measuring machine determines the coordinates of features or points on a work piece using an X, Y, Z grid
TECHNOLOGY:
The eight-segment LED is a circular microscope illuminator that is positioned above the sample. With the ability to direct white LED light at a shallow angle of incidence onto the sample from eight different directions, it is possible to reveal low-contrast edges that are usually invisible using episcopic illumination.
APPLICATIONS:
Coordinate measuring machines are available in a variety of sizes and configurations to suit work pieces across industrial applications. They may be found on the shop floor for large industrial pieces or in temperature and humidity controlled environments for small pieces where thermal expansion could introduce measurement error. Coordinate measuring is used in process and quality control and is also useful for reverse engineering.
MICROSCOPE CONFIGURATION:
Nikon’s Nexiv range of vision systems provide non contact coordinate measuring for a variety of work pieces and sizes. The Nexiv VMR-H3030, for example, achieves sub-micron uncertainty because of precise, low-thermal expansion glass scales and robust hardware, while the Nexiv VMR-12072 allows measurement of large work pieces because of an ultra long 1200 x 720 mm stage stroke. The Nexiv VMA-2520, in addition, can accommodate an optional touch trigger probe to make contact measurement possible.
